Congratulations 2017 Graduates! It’s that time of the year…a time when your years (can we repeat this…YEARS) of hard work, all-nighters, and gallons of coffee have paid off – it’s Graduation day. You get to walk across the stage, shake hands with the administrators of your school, and grab a hold of the piece of paper you’ve worked so diligently to have!
Whether you’re going on to further education, starting a job, or taking a moment to debrief, there are a few lessons that should be remembered. While school is synonymous with subjects such as economics, biology, and English, there are many more subjects that teach us along the way. The friendships you cultivated helped you to learn about differences in people and helped you to appreciate those differences. The existence of finals week coached you in the art of time management. If you were away from home during this time, the distance from home made you appreciate all that your parents have and continue to do for you.
As you plan your outfit and try to obtain that extra ticket so Aunt [insert name] can come, I would like to encourage you to do one thing…thank someone. Thank anyone in your life that has ever helped you do anything – minute or large – to help foster your dreams. This can be anyone from your parents, to a teacher, to a friend that supported your endeavors.
Here is a quote by Tom Brokaw that I find completely lovely:
“You are educated. Your certification is in your degree. You may think of it as the ticket to the good life. Let me ask you to think of an alternative. Think of it as your ticket to change the world.”
Go out and change the world, Lovelies!
