‘Peace Day’ or ‘International Peace Day’, is September 21 – and it cannot come soon enough.
Today I want you to hear the story of an unlikely hero who accidentally started a movement that is sweeping the world.
Ronny Edry is an Israeli citizen. He was drawn into a conversation one day during a stop in a grocery store. Israel has been embroiled in conflict with Iran for over a decade. Israelis and Iranians know that each passing moment brings them potentially closer to war. The store owner and a customer discussed the many thousands of missiles that would befall his beloved country.
Ronny left the conversation feeling helpless and desperate. He wasn’t angry with anyone. He didn’t want war or bombs and he certainly didn’t want anyone to die. Ronny Edry needed the people of Iran to know how he felt. But how do you cross enemy lines to reason with your “mortal enemies?” He did it with one picture and ten words:
And with that, Ronny and his daughter literally started to change the world – overnight.
Amid great tragedy and war, Peace Day gives us the chance to devote ourselves to strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples.
“If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.– Romans 12:18
“It is not enough to teach children how to read, write and count. Education has to cultivate mutual respect for others and the world in which we live, and help people forge more just, inclusive and peaceful societies.”~ UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon
I encourage you to watch and find out how this photo campaign caused an ever expanding ripple effect that bypassed diplomats and went straight to the heart of the “enemy.”
It changed me. I guarantee it’ll do the same to you:
